Updates to watch for...

Postby Jeff » Sun Jun 12, 2005 7:15 pm

There will soon be a new Notification Plugin coming, which I have currently codenamed the "Utility" plugin (name suggestions are welcome...). This plugin will allow something that many people have requested -- the ability to repeat the new mail sound. The sound can be repeated in any increment of seconds/minutes/hours.

It will also have the capability of running an executable (or any file with an association, such as .mp3). This also has the option to be repeated.

I am also considering adding in the option to flash the numlock or capslock key. Speak up now if this affects you...

The first version of this plugin will not include per-account customization, only if you receive new mail or not. I expect it to be available by next week.

Skin Notifier:
More image types (jpeg, gif) will be allowed for the graphics, which should significantly decrease the overall sizes of the skins, especially the ones with a large background image. I also want to allow more options for the sliding affect, such as window placement and slide direction. Maybe even add a fade in/out effect. This update has lower priority and probably won't be available for several weeks/months.

Jeff, it would be nice to have some type of auto update for PPTweaker.

"All things come to those who wait."

Jeff --

1- call it Chime .
2- as it is dependent on new mails , should not use the same Scroll Lock flash ?
3- anyway , the new flash(es) would prevent the Hibernation , the same way ? (BTW : this side effect of flashing could be documented , I spent hours to find out) .
4- it will be very useful even w/o a customization/account : one could make his(her) preferences arranging the sets for play/account/Chime , plus that trick of the Mute sound (which I included in the Lib I sent you) .
• (PP + IMAP + Send)=381 Web=3808 PPT=38 SSL=1005 Voice=3 Chime=3 Skin=36 PP-Add-on-Pack=3 • XPproSP3 • Fx=1301 Opera=1162 [IE=80] • Online-Armor=5501616 • CPU=1.2GHz • RAM=2.5GB •

I like it. My first thought was, "but it can do more than sounds", but "chime" does have the connotation of "repeating" which is exactly what this plugin is based on. =D>

Some keyboards (laptops) don't have scroll lock, so some people have asked for caps or numlock options.

3- anyway , the new flash(es) would prevent the Hibernation , the same way ?

Yes, which brings up a good point... those same people with laptops probably don't want something preventing hibernation. So consider this option off the list if there are no objections.

(BTW : this side effect of flashing could be documented , I spent hours to find out) .

hmm... let's see, where would be a good place for this? Maybe in the context-sensitive help and I could put a Warning in big, red letters... Oh, wait! I already did that! :P

To tell you the truth, there's a chance PPTweaker won't be updated again. That is, there is nothing else I can think of that will be included. And besides, it only gets updated on x.x versions at most.

Name suggestion

Postby mizi » Mon Jun 13, 2005 6:44 pm

Hi, Jeff. How is 'Pop Beeper' as the name of your new notification plugin? 'Beeper' is similar to 'Peeper', and also has the meaning of sound. I am not an English speak, not sure whether it is ok. Hope it helps :D

"Pager" or "POP Pager".. just my 2 cents.

Jeff, those updates sound great! im more looking foward to the updates for the skins, but still, sounds awesome! One thing though, how about PNG for image types? Since you showed it to me thorugh skin submission, i have been hooked on it. Great file size and quality is still decent

Postby Gump » Tue Jun 21, 2005 1:27 pm

Hey BP,I am running your XP skin, works like a hot damn...Question:How would one go about having your skin stay on like the programme one...I picked PopPeeper because it will stay on top even with the screensaver running, makes good cause you know instantly that you have mail...I would like to have yours staying on like that...Gumpmeister  :P

Gump -- it doesn't matter which skin you use, it should be "always on top." Whether it stays on top when your screensaver kicks in relies on the type of screensaver you're using. If it's an OpenGL screensaver (ie. the "3D" screensavers), it won't show. But if the main PP desktop alert shows up, the skin popup should show as well...

I just wonder if you may consider to add <parameters> to the Command line ?

That is something I have in my Telephony CallerID application, and it is very handy to do custom functions like for example;

MyProgram.exe $From $Subject

and you can have this as a customizing function to do all sorts of things, from posting info to web pages, to announcing who sending you email over the speakers by using TTS for example.

Currently I have my Telephony CallerID application's command line option to pause the music playing for 3 minutes on my computer when a telephone call comes in.

Thought this Chime plug-in could maybe be used for something similar?
